The Forty et Eight is an independent fraternal organization of U S Veterans, more commonly known as the Forty & Eight.
Tulsa County Voiture 185 was first chartered in 1920 and had the second floor of the Harrington's Fine Clothing store downtown Tulsa located at the North/West corner of 10th & Main Street. When Waite Phillips (a prominate Oil business man) said he would donate land and money to build a building for both the 40 & 8 and the American Legion on the south/west corner of 8th St and Peoria ave in Tulsa. When the 40 & 8 moved into their new building it was re-chartered for the 2nd time in 1929.
The family of 40 & Eighters is the High Society of the American Legion. The VFW has the Codies, The Masons has the Shriners, etc. Membership into the Forty & Eight is by invitation only but if your interested, email the correspondant and let him know your interested in mabey joining the organization.
